BATHROOM ACCESSORIES - Finish off the uplift with new accessories is the icing on the cake. Bathroom accessories not only include the standard towel rack, paper holder, towel hoop, and robe hanger on the back of the door. They also include the pictures you'll hang and the little placements on top of the toilet or on the vanity.

Proper choice and placement of your accessories finishes the picture. It also creates the mood in your bathroom. Imagine some soft music playing, a scented candles burning, and you relaxing in the tub as you stare up at the beautiful new crown moulding. You might not have the time in your day for that situation, but you do get where I'm going with this.

Your racks and holders will match your plumbing fixtures. Many home centers display complete sets. Manufactures such as Moen carry their own line of accessories that match their finishes exactly. Make sure the racks and such that you choose fit nicely into the area. There should be room on each side with the towels placed on them. Cramming in racks that don't really fit nicely will tend to make your bathroom look smaller and cluttered. If you don't have the wall space you need, consider a robe hanger on the back of the bathroom door. They're not just for robes. You can use them for extra towels too. A towel hoop on the side of the vanity wall is a convenient place to hang a hand towel.

When setting your paper holder, make sure it's both easily reachable for everyone if it's on a wall. Make sure it's not crowding you and easily usable if it's hung on the vanity next to the toilet. If you're drilling into your vanity, measure twice. Better yet, use the templates that generally come with your racks and holders. They make like so much easier. Use a level also. Eyeing it up is not a good idea.

I find myself mentioning a store called Home Goods a lot to customers and in my articles. People just find the neatest things there and from what I hear, it's a shopping adventure each week with new inventory coming in. Of course many department stores are now carrying a nice selection of home decor items.

Happy Remodeling!

When securing towel racks to sheetrock, purchase a better quality of anchor than those supplied by the manufacturer. Chances are, those will pull out with time from constantly pulling the towel off the rack.

It's always best if you can set your anchor screws in a stud. If you can't put both ends of the towel rack into a stud, at least try to screw on side into wood.
