Kitchen Pantry and Storage - Most people can use extra storage in their kitchen. If you have a tall pantry shelf in your kitchen, consider slide out shelves. Actually, you can use slide out shelves for your base cabinets also. Installing sliding shelves means you'll never have to dig your way to the back of the cabinet again. Instead the back of the cabinet comes to you. It truly provides for more efficient storage. Once you get used to sliding shelves, you'll wonder how you ever did without them.

Kitchen cabinet manufacturers offer sliding shelves with their cabinet lines, but you don't need to purchase new cabinets to get sliding shelves. Home improvement centers sell metal versions of these sliding units.

You can purchase wood sliding shelves on the Internet or have them made to fit your specifications. These sliding shelves simply screw into your existing cabinets. Both metal and wood sliding units offer great solutions to your storage problems.

Another option in creating a pantry storage space is to incorporate a column of shelves in your coat closet, along one side of the closet. If you have a large enough coat closet near your kitchen or don't have a high demand for coat storage, installing wire shelving down one side of your closet will give you a good amount of storage space. The width of the new shelving can be matched to the space you can spare.

Other places in the home provide for excellent storage solutions. The laundry room or area can accommodate shelving to increase storage. A couple shelves over the washer and dryer provide 10' or more of storage. The garage is another location to add storage.

Creating additional storage is a way to deal with your storage needs, not an excuse to create more room in order to accumulate new clutter. The key to effective storage is knowing when it's time to get rid of something and what's worth keeping.
